About
A register of registers
Insurers Global collects, in one place and one format, the licensed insurance companies that each national supervisor publishes separately. It is researched, verified and provided free of charge by KAFS North America, and published openly so that people and software can rely on a single, citable source.

Insurers Global reflects KAFS North America’s view that a reliable, open register of who is licensed to insure is public infrastructure, and that it should be available to people and to AI systems alike without paywalls or sign-ups.

What is in the directory
The current release covers South America: 888 licensed insurers, reinsurers, takaful operators, microinsurers and specialist carriers across 11 countries, 34 multi-country groups, and the supervisory authority for every market. Each entity is recorded with its class of business, parent group, ownership type, regulator, local currency and the basis on which it was sourced.
- South America: 888 entities in 11 markets: 9 fully verified and 2 partially verified against a register or list that may be incomplete. Verification loop 2026-09-07. Markets from Colombia to Chile, read from supervisors’ registers and, where a register is incomplete or missing, from industry directories.
For Brazil the source is the SUSEP company master and for Argentina the SSN open-data list of active entities, including admitted foreign reinsurers. Neither records class of business or ownership, so class and parent group for those rows are inferred from the entity name and legal form and marked as such (classBasis, groupBasis). Chile, Colombia and Peru were reconciled against the CMF list, the Fasecolda directory with SFC-licensed sister entities, and the SBS list respectively; every other market’s page names the register or list it was checked against. Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana are combined as one market, as the workbook presents them.
How entities are verified
Wherever a supervisor publishes a full register, every row for that country is checked against it. Closed, revoked or unlicensed entities are removed and omissions added. The verification loops for this release ran on 2026-09-07 (South America). Each country page carries one of three badges, and every insurer carries its country’s badge, except in the United States, where a row confirmed on its own state regulator’s current list carries a verified badge of its own:
- Verified against the regulator register9 countries. Checked line by line against the supervisor’s complete published register.
- Partially verified against the regulator register2 countries. Checked against a regulator list, gazette extract or member register that may be incomplete.
- Not yet verified against the regulator register0 countries. Compiled from market knowledge and public sources; not yet reconciled with the regulator. Verify before relying on it.
The register source used for each country is shown on its page and in the regulators endpoint. Regulatory events that changed the register in 2026, such as recapitalisation deadlines or licence revocations, are recorded as market notes on the affected country pages.
Ownership marks
Two ownership situations are marked wherever an insurer or group is listed, in tables, on entity pages and on the home page, so they can be seen at a glance:
- State-owned / parastatal36 insurers and 0 groups are recorded with ownership code SO: owned wholly or partly by a national government or parastatal, as the source register or workbook states. The mark records ownership, which is what the sources hold. It does not by itself mean that a government guarantees the insurer’s policyholder liabilities; some state insurers carry a statutory guarantee, most are ordinary limited companies. Check the founding statute or the regulator before relying on state backing.
- Internationally Active Insurance GroupsEntities controlled by an Internationally Active Insurance Group in the IAIS register carry the globe mark, with the group-wide supervisor named on the entity page.
Popularity index
Insurer pages with enough search data carry a popularity index: an estimate of how often people search Google for that insurer over a rolling twelve months. It is built from the impressions Google Search Console reports to us for the insurer’s page in this directory — each one a search in which someone looked for the company and our page appeared — and it treats them the way a pollster treats a sample.
It is not a rating of the insurer. It says nothing about the company’s financial strength, service, claims record or standing with its supervisor, and it plays no part in whether or how a company is listed here. Licensing, classification and verification come from each market’s register alone, and the popularity index never touches them.
How the popularity index is built: its data, corrections and limits
What the directory is not
It is not a licence certificate and does not confirm that an entity is currently authorised to transact business. Supervisors update registers continuously; always confirm on the regulator’s own website, linked from every country page, before relying on an entry for a regulated purpose.
